Biography

Julian Culver is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Sociology at Brown University. His work explores racial attitude changes caused by sociopolitical shifts including presidential elections, global pandemics, and restrictive voting laws. His work appears in Sociology of Religion: A Quarterly Review, Sociological Perspectives; Sociological Inquiry; Journal of Social and Personal Relationships; Socius: Sociological Research for a Dynamic World, among others.  

Julian earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from Rice University in 2022, with his dissertation titled, “When and Why Racial Attitudes Change: Presidential Elections, Politicians, and Racial Exemplars.” He also holds an M.A. in Sociology from Rice University and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Dr. Culver is the Postdoctoral Fellow for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for the Department of Sociology.  In addition to working with the department's webmaster to populate the Diversity and Inclusion page of the department website, Julian will be responsible for completing departmental initiatives on this topic.
